Altarum Institute
Services: Lean Kaizen events; event planning and follow-up
Experience: Altarum coaches have trained 3,000+ state and federal employees in Lean. Have worked with all levels of government. Private sector experience is in health care and manufacturing. Altarum is primarily a nonprofit research institute with a focus on healthcare systems and solutions.
Price: Senior Lean Expert - $2,400/day; Lean Expert - $2,000/day; Senior Continuous Improvement Expert- $1,600/day
Special Considerations: Value stream mapping is the focus of improvement events. Rate does not include travel expenses.
Dashe & Thomson
Services: Lean awareness training; Lean facilitator training and coaching; just-in-time training; Lean project events
Experience: Founded in 1981 and based in Minneapolis. Experience with large corporations such as Medtronic, Ecolab and GE, as well as state entities including the U of M, MNSCU and the Minnesota Supreme Court. Experienced Lean consultants offer customized Lean training and consulting.
Price: Tom Humphreys or John Shuerman - $1,280/day; Bernie Pieper or Carol Bouska - $1,160/day
Special Considerations: Distribution of hours depends on individual plan with agencies and rate does not include materials or preparation time.
PDG Consulting
Services: Lean needs assessment; Lean leadership training; Lean Kaizen facilitator training; Lean consulting (Kaizen events)
Experience: Worked with ten Minnesota agencies during initial 6-month contract, provided customized Lean facilitator training to agency staff. Firm was founded in 2003. Other experience is in manufacturing, service, printing, healthcare and non-profits. Offers customizes Lean services. All consultants have Lean experience and most have Lean certifications.
Price: $1,800/day
Special Considerations: Flat daily rate for all work. Receive one free day for every 15 days contracted with PDG.
Clinton Consulting
Services: Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen event, 5S, Lean leadership, Six Sigma leadership, Baseline Measurement System, and communication strategies.
Experience: Firm was founded in 2004. Mr. Clinton was a quality engineer for Honeywell's Clearwater Space and Strategic Avionics Division. Mr. Clinton has also used Kaizen events and 5S to improve several office environments.
Price: $960/day
Special Considerations: Mr. Clinton is the lead consultant for the firm, but may employ assistance from individuals from the Carlson School of Management's JM Juran Quality Center.
Management Analysis and Development (MAD) Consultants
Services: Offers custom-designed services in business process redesign and reengineering; organizational development; program evaluation; coaching; change management
Experience: MAD consultants are internally-trained Lean Kaizen facilitators, with one Six Sigma black belt on staff. As state employees, MAD consultants understand the unique demands of working and managing in state government. MAD has been providing fee-for-service consulting to state agencies since 1985 and have experience in a wide variety of improvement projects.
Price: $125/hour or $1000/day
Special Considerations: Pre-contract consultation meetings are free to the agency. After a client accepts a proposal, MAD's business office processes an interagency agreement.
